Carpet Repair: Restretching, Cut And PlugPower Stretching

Do you ever wonder why your carpet may feel a little lumpy? This can happen when some types of carpets start to continuously stretch out. However, other carpets may not do this at all. If you’ve got carpeting that seemingly likes to stretch out, its recommended that you have it repaired. If you decide to leave it as it is, it will likely continue to get even lumpier, and will make your carpeting wear out much more quickly. Ripples in your carpeting require a carpet repair technique that is known as a carpet re-stretch, which is also known as carpet stretching.
Over time, your carpet may begin to have ripples, lumps or waves. This typically happens to poorly installed new carpet, however, older carpets can also experience this as well, due to a variety of reasons. Not only is this rippling effect unattractive, but it can also be a tripping hazard. If your carpeting has this condition, we recommend repairing it with a technique called “power stretching”. “Power stretching” is the process of pulling your carpet up along the edges to meet the tack strip and using a specialized piece of equipment to re-stretch it back to its proper position. This procedure can extend the life and look of your carpet, and help keep it looking consistently well-maintained. A carpet that is properly stretched allows for more effective carpet cleaning and also a hazard free environment.

Cut and Plug

Flooring is typically the second most expensive investment in a home, so it is important to make sure that the carpet we have in our homes can last for an extended period of time. That’s why experiencing a burn or any heavy staining on your carpets can be so disheartening. Just because an accident has occurred on your carpets, doesn’t mean that you need to replace your carpet entirely. You may be able to patch or fix the damaged section, for only a fraction of the cost. A patch is what we call a cut and plug.

If you have a stain that covers a larger area on your carpet, or is deep into the fibers of your carpet and cannot be successfully removed with one of the many stain removal treatments from the professionals at Air Fresh Chem-Dry, you’re going to need to replace the damaged section. If you still have some remnants of that specific carpet, then that can easily be used in our cut and plug process. If not, you can still get a suitable replacement section from the back of a closet, as well.

All carpet has a grain or texture as a result of the way it’s made and manufactured. If the carpet fibers are brushed one way the fibers stand up, and if you brush them in the other direction, the fibers seem to lie down. You want to make sure that any replacement piece you use is positioned correctly so that the grain is running the same way as the rest of the carpet. Further, we suggest that replacement pieces are less noticeable if they are cut in the shape of a triangle or a circle. Squares and rectangles typically catch the eye easier. Our professionally trained technicians are able to determine what is best for your carpet, so your carpets can successfully have the look and feel it deserves.
